The growth of railroad lines in the time during the Civil War and Reconstruction differs greatly from the North to the South. This is due to the focus on northern industrialization that is not felt in the South. Northern railroad lines spread all throughout within and to the West while Southern point only towards the North. This meant that even if the South could not get out of their agricultural dominant economy during reconstruction as they did not have the infrastructure like the North had.
